Healing Together: PTSD Support Groups

Living with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) can feel isolating—even overwhelming. At Teton Counseling Center, our PTSD Support Groups offer a safe, compassionate community where individuals impacted by trauma can process experiences, connect with others, and regain hope.
Understanding PTSD and Its Impact
PTSD can arise after exposure to traumatic events like accidents, violence, abuse, or combat. Common symptoms include intrusive memories or nightmares, emotional numbing, anxiety, hypervigilance, and avoidance of triggers. PTSD often overlaps with depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and disrupted relationships. Our group setting helps you feel less alone and more empowered to heal.
What to Expect in Our PTSD Support Group
In a confidential and structured group environment, participants learn to:
- Process trauma in a safe space
- Understand triggers and responses
- Reduce shame through shared experiences
- Learn evidence-based coping and emotion regulation strategies
Our approach draws from therapies known to be effective for PTSD:
- Trauma-Focused CBT (TF‑CBT), which helps identify and reframe unhealthy thought patterns tied to trauma.
- Prolonged Exposure Therapy, helping individuals gradually face reminders of trauma to relieve distress.
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), which challenges beliefs that can keep trauma locked in place.
We may also incorporate relaxation techniques like breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga as complementary tools.
Therapists Who Understand Trauma
Our team includes clinicians deeply trained in trauma-informed care and PTSD modalities:
- JaLynne Fletcher, LPC, integrates TF‑CBT, CPT, and CBT in healing trauma.
- Nathaniel Genther, LMSW, skilled in ACT, CBT, and trauma therapy with a focus on empowerment through coping strategies.
- Travis K. Bybee, LCSW, board-certified in trauma-informed interventions and experienced in supporting individuals with PTSD across life stages.
Each group member benefits from facilitators who prioritize safety, empathy, and best-practice protocols.
Why Group Settings Work
Group therapy offers unique benefits that individual sessions may not:
- Shared stories reduce isolation and foster community
- Practical feedback and peer accountability support growth
- A space for emotional processing in real time
- Consistent routines and skill-building in a therapeutic context
Combined with individual sessions when needed, group work strengthens recovery pathways.
